CLARENCE J. LURSEN, age 87, of Adrian, died Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born on November 4, 1926 in Lyon County, Iowa to parents John and Laura (Wilkens) Lursen. He attended country school in District #57 and also District 11. After his schooling he worked for different farmers in the Adrian and Rushmore areas. Clarence was drafted into the United States Army in 1946 and served in Korea for one year and received his honorable discharge in 1948.
Clarence was united in marriage to Martha Kruse on September 2, 1948 at the Bethel Reformed Church Parsonage south of Ellsworth. They made their home on a farm southeast of Rushmore and in 1960 they moved to his parents farm south of Rushmore. In 1973, the couple moved to Adrian, MN.
He enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball and played in several different leagues. Clarence also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Martha Lursen, Adrian, MN; daughters, Janice (Steve) Sathre, Ellsworth, MN and Karen Greeley, Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Julie Sathre-Ask and Jill Rosenberg, five great grandchildren, Megan Ask, Nicole (Jon) Kolbe, Matthew Ask, Brody Rosenberg and Myles Rosenberg, three great-great grandchildren, Nathan, Brennen and James Kolbe; also surviving is his brother Donald (Mary) Lursen, Adrian, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Alice Pieper and son-in-law, Ted Ask.
