CLARENCE V. LURSEN, age 78, of Worthington, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Worthington. He was born May 22, 1931, in George, IA, to Oltman and Esther (Beek) Lursen. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1949. Clarence was employed part time during high school at the Worthmore Ice Cream store; Skaggs Grocery; and then full time at the Worthington Creamery and Produce Co. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from July of 1952 to April of 1954 serving his country with the Counter Fire Unit of Company ?G? 364th Infantry Regiment in Korea for eleven months. Clarence married Viola Nelson on November 14, 1958, in the Church of the Brethren in rural Reading. After their marriage, the couple lived in Worthington where Clarence worked at the Worthmore Ice Cream plant, and then finally at the Nobles County Library where he worked for twenty two years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Worthington Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Deacon and on the fellowship Board for many years. He enjoyed bicycling, manicuring his lawn, gardening, word search puzzles, phase 10 card games and having coffee with friends. Clarence is survived by his wife, Viola Lursen, Worthington; three children and seven grandchildren, Kelly (Cora) Lursen, and their children, Jared & Karlee, of Apple Valley; Kent (Colleen) Lursen, and their children, Koby & Tyler, of Maple Grove; and Keri (John) Larson, and her son, Scott Simpson, of Worthington, and John?s sons, Jesse (Jessica) Larson & Derrik Larson; great grandchild, Dalton Larson; brother, Chuck (Georgia) Lursen, Fulda; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Adolph, Reading; and Myrtle (Lyle) Adolph, Worthington; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-in-law, Marian (Carl) Patterson; and Margaret Nelson; and another brother-in-law, Alfred Adolph.
