CLARENCE VAN MEEKEREN, age 80, of Okoboji, IA, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Milford Nursing Home in Milford, IA. He was born on January 6, 1933, in rural Sanborn, IA. Clarence was the son of Jake and Winnie Van Meekeren. He lived his youth in rural Sanborn; and attended the Sheldon Christian Grade School in Sheldon, Iowa.
Clarence was united in marriage to Jean Van Der Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA, on September 18, 1959, in Sioux Center, IA. The couple farmed near Fulda, MN where they raised their 5 children.
He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, IA. Clarence enjoyed camping, traveling, boating and water sports with his family. More recently, he enjoyed spending the winter months at his home in Mesa, AZ; and summers at his home in Okoboji, IA with Jean. Clarence loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean Van Meekeren, Okoboji, IA; four daughters and sons-in-law, Clarissa & Myron Meyer, Kellogg; Jonna & Leon Tellinghuisen, Blairstown, IA; Clancy & Michael Craven, Rochester; and Jena & Duane Walburg, Aurora, CO; son and daughter-in-law, Claryn & Lora Van Meekeren, Reading; fifteen grandchildren, Camelle (Christopher) Smith, Mitchell, Clinton & Conlan Meyer; Shonna, Lyndsi, Jori & Shayla Tellinghuisen; Sophia, Ezra & Elsa Craven; and Drey, Jaysa, Dane & Javin Walburg; sister, Martena (Garret) Doorlag, Portage, MI; and a sister-in-law, Louetta Van Meekeren, Sheldon, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Agnes Zordraager, Marion Hubers & Bertha Van Meekeren; and a brother, Ronald Van Meekeren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral will be 11 am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.
