Obituary

CLARENCE SCHEEPSTRA, age 77, of Worthingon, died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at his home. He was born April 25, 1931 on a farm near Worthington, to parents, Klaas and Nellie (Dejong) Scheepstra. He attended District #18 Country School in rural Worthington. In 1952 Clarence enlisted in the Air Force and completed his basic training in San Antonio, TX and served as an Emergency Medical Technician. Clarence married Esther Luitjens on July 14, 1955 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Reading. After their marriage the couple moved to Sacramento, CA where Clarence was stationed. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and the couple moved back to his parents farm in rural Worthington. In 1988 the couple bought an acreage east of Worthington. Clarence was engaged in farming and also did custom work for area farmers. He moved snow within the city of Worthington. After he retired from farming, Clarence worked for Tom?s Car Wash for almost ten years. Clarence was a member of the American Reformed Church where he served as an usher and participated in the CFC and Bible Study Group. He was a member of the American Legion #461 in Round Lake and was a past Vice Commander and Seargent of Arms for the Second District. Clarence enjoyed fishing and had a great passion for gardening. His pride and joy was their acreage and he spent a lot of time and effort into making it what it is today. In his spare time he volunteered delivering over 100 bicycles to the Center of Hope in Sioux Falls. They enjoyed spending nine winters in Alamo, TX. Clarence is survived by his wife, Esther, Worthington; children James (Pamela) Scheepstra, Worthington; Carolyn (Steven) Lindquist, Granite Falls; Michael (Denise) Scheepstra, Wahpeton, ND; three grandchildren, Heidi (Bob) Ramsdell, Superior, WI; Heather Lindquist (fianc?e) David Brown, Sacred Heart, and Michelle Scheepstra, Wahpeton, ND; one great-grandson, Connor Ramsdell, two step-grandsons, Vance and Christopher Grave, one step-greatgranddaughter, Megan Ramsdell; two brothers and two sisters, Sena (Clarence) Hunsucker, Platte, SD; Daniel (Evelyn) Scheepstra, Tucson, AZ; Tena (Dale) Vanzee, New Holland, SD; and John (Pearl) Scheepstra, Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant child.
