CLARICE JOAN LANDHUIS, age 83, of Leota, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, July 18, 2011. She was born September 30, 1927, in Leota, to John and Angie (DeBoer) Anker. She grew up on the family farm near Leota, attended Leota Public Grade School and graduated from Edgerton High School.
Clarice married Howard Landhuis on October 1, 1948. This union was blessed with 2 sons, Randy and Keith. She and Howard owned and operated Landhuis Produce and Milk Hauling. She ran the Produce Station, buying and selling eggs, and spent many years grading eggs with several Leota ladies until Howard sold the business.
Clarice lived in the Leota community her whole life. She was a lifetime member of Bethel Reformed Church, in Leota, and was active as a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, Ladies Guild and was church organist for over fifty years, starting when she was sixteen years old. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was a volunteer, with Howard, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, for many years.
Due to declining health, she became a resident in Edgebrook Assisted Living in 2006. She had just recently became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center. She will be missed by many residents and staff there.
Clarice is lovingly remembered by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy & Wanda Landhuis, Leota; and Keith & Peg Landhuis, Rochester; three grandchildren, Jeff & Todd Landhuis; and Angela (James) Thibodeaux; two great granddaughters, Kathryn & Ava; and a sister-in-law, Fran Anker, Leota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard, in 2003; and her two brothers, Willard & Marvin Anker.
