CLAUDE DONAVAN HELMS, age 84, of Worthington, died Friday, February 22, 2007, at the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne. He was born May 6, 1923, in Worthington, to Claudie and Lucy (Bruner) Helms. He attended school in Worthington. Claude entered the United States Army and served his country during WWII. Claude married Genevieve Nelson on February 27, 1943, in South Sioux City, IA. On Wednesday, the couple would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Claude was a lifelong resident of Worthington. He worked as a carpenter for several area contractors. He was a member of the Worthington Christian Church; the Worthington VFW; and the Worthington American Legion. Claude enjoyed being a member of the Worthington Gun Club. He loved shooting, hunting & fishing. Claude is survived by his wife, Genevieve Helms, Worthington; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly & Donald Van Dyke, Worthington; four grandchildren, Roxanne (Gary) Tieman, Irving, TX; Debra Van Dyke, Pipestone; Terry Van Dyke, Worthington; and Jeff Van Dyke, Coon Rapids; four great grandchildren, Scott, Molly, Eric & Derek; three great great grandchildren, Jacob, Memphis & London; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ivan & Marvin Helms.
