DALE E. KREKELBERG, age 84, of Worthington, died, Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Minnesota Veterans home in Luverne. He was born on February 8, 1927, in St. Peter, MN to parents Phillip Leo and Ella Claire (Tetzloff) Krekelberg. Dale graduated from Westbrook High School and later graduated from Worthington Junior College. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
On August 23, 1952 he was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Wallace in Worthington. After their marriage the couple lived in Worthington from 1952 to 1964. In 1965 they moved to Slayton and back to Worthington in 1966. Dale worked for Dinglers Sporting Goods Store and later Production Credit Association, State Bank of Worthington and was the founder of Krekelberg Reality and Krekelberg Appraisal. Dale became a resident of the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Luverne in 2008.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, and was active in the choir for 40 years, served as a lector, and was a Eucharistic minister. Dale belonged to the American Legion and served as Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He was a high school referee for basketball and football and also a baseball umpire. He was an American Legion bugler and volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic School as a teacher's aide. He was a member of the Worthington Country Club and the Noble Chordsmen. He contributed and participated in many civic musical events. Dale enjoyed golf, baseball, kids, grandkids, summer cabin fishing, singing, and was an avid Notre Dame football enthusiast.
Dale is survived by his wife, Patricia Krekelberg, Worthington, MN; children, Julie (Steve) Busch, Burnsville, MN; Joel (Amy Ernst) Krekelberg, Worthington, MN; Jane (Dale) Specken, Hopkins, MN; Nancy (Lonny) Johnson, Worthington, MN; and Jon (Jen) Krekelberg Burnsville, MN; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Douglas (Joyce) Krekelberg, Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
