DARLENE LaVONNE NAGEL, age 79, of rural Adrian, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born July 3, 1929, on the family farm southwest of George, IA, Lyon County, to Louie and Dena (Stubbe) Peters. Darlene graduated from George High School. She worked various jobs in the George area. Darlene married Lendert Nagel on March 31, 1949, at the Presbyterian church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple worked on different farms in the George area. In 1954, they moved to Enumclaw, WA. There, they worked side by side in the home construction business. In 1964, they purchased the farm north of Adrian. Darlene & Lendert were partners in life. They loved working together on the farm. Darlene enjoyed driving the tractor and doing field work. When her health and eyesight declined, she was frustrated giving up her farm work. She was a member of the Eastfriesland Church of Christ in Rushmore. She enjoyed bowling; golfing & wintering with Lendert in Alamo, TX, for nine years. Darlene & Lendert loved their grandchildren very much and enjoyed going to their different activities. They enjoyed watching them grow & thrive. Darlene is survived by her husband, Lendert Nagel, rural Adrian; four children and their spouses, Jim & Linda Nagel, Sioux Falls, SD; Sally & Bill Foster, Dorchester, TX; Doug & Denise Nagel, Pipestone; Deb & Mark Hodapp, Adrian; nine grandchildren, Dean & Paul Nagel, Amy Dierks, Michelle & Kristin Foster, Joseph & Jennie Nagel and Nichole & Christopher Hodapp; four great grandchildren, Kara & Mandy Dierks, Colin Nagel & Hannalee Nagel; three sisters, Tressa Henrichs, Buckley, WA; Lucille Smit, Hull, IA; and Beverly Sholberg, Camo Island, WA; two sisters-in-law, Tillie Peters, Fargo, ND; and Lois Nagel, George, IA; and many cousins, nieces, nephews & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; great granddaughter, Addison Nagel; infant sister; infant brother; four brothers, John, Pete, Ray & Merlyn Peters; and a sister, Jennie Boomgarden.
