Darlene Joyce (Peterson) Plantz, age 82, of Brewster, MN, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. She was born June 30, 1942, to Percy Carl Peterson and Luella Mae (Kindler) Peterson in Tyler, MN.
She lived her early years in Russell, MN, and graduated from Russell Public School.
Darlene married Rodney Wayne Plantz on October 19, 1963, in Russell, MN. After their marriage, they lived in various places before moving to Brewster, MN in 1977. From this marriage they had two children Dean Carl Plantz and Linette Kay Plantz.
Darlene worked at several waitressing jobs, and from 1968–1969 she worked at Campbell's Soup Co. She then decided to stay home and raise her children. They farmed for several years. Then in 1976, Darlene went back to Campbell's Soup Co. She worked there for 22 years until it closed in 1997. After retiring from Campbell's she went on the road trucking with her husband Rodney until he retired in 2002.
Darlene was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brewster where she enjoyed attending and participating in church activities. She also enjoyed going to the Brewster Senior Center for coffee and cards with friends, gardening, cooking, baking, and listening to music. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the rest of her many family members and friends.
Darlene is survived by her son Dean Carl (Jenny) Plantz, daughter Linette Kay Plantz; 4 grandchildren Emily (Jon) Millen, Victoria (David) Beech, Christopher (Meggan Strub) Plantz, and Tanner Plantz; 17 great-grandchildren Jaytin, Alivia (Mark) Christianson, Gavin, Isabella, Abigail, Madelina, Adalyn, Jobb, Edie, Jensen, Jonny, Arlo, Lyric, Frankie, Rodney-Wayne, Ozzy, and David (Jr.). She is also survived by her siblings Vicky, Gene, Karen, Becky, Bonnie, and Clayton; many nieces and nephews, and in-laws. extended family Jami and Kiera Buntjer, and very special friends Suzann Busch, Muriel Pearson, Margaret Slykhuis, Linda Strouth, just to name a few.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Percy Carl Peterson, mother Luella Mae (Kindler) Peterson, husband Rodney Wayne Plantz; and 2 siblings Deanna and Randy, and many sisters/brothers-in-law. She has expressed that she cannot wait to see them again.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday, May 8 at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, with Parish Prayers at 4 pm officiated by Pastor Robert Bartlett. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral will be 11 am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Galen Smith. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery, in Brewster, after the funeral lunch.
