DARLENE FAY VELDKAMP, age 76, of Luverne, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital. She was born July 17, 1931, on the family farm in Center Township of Sioux County, IA, to John and Frances (Popma) Schuller. Darlene attended country school in rural Sioux County, IA. Upon completion of her schooling, she remained on the farm to help her parents. Darlene married Ben Veldkamp on February 7, 1950, in Sioux Center, IA. After their marriage, the couple worked as farmhands for two years in Sioux County, IA. In 1953, they farmed land in Lyon County until moving to Rock County where they lived & farmed until 1968. At this time, the family moved to Pipestone County and farmed for the next eighteen years. In 1986, Darlene & Ben retired from farming and moved to Pipestone. In 1991, they moved to Luverne. Darlene is survived by her husband, Ben Veldkamp, Luverne; five daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda & Jon Bergh, Forman, ND; Barbara & Larry Meyer, Coon Rapids; Judy & Bruce Larson, Andover; Jody & Bryan Nelson, Hartley, IA; and Marci & Steven Weiland, Ham Lake; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brother, Lawrence (Lorene) Schuller, Sioux Center, IA; and four sisters, Leona Voorhees, Spearfish, SD; Marie (Art) Loerts, Ocheyedan, IA; Shirley VanIpren, Lake Park, IA; and Muriel Roskam, Hospers, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Schuller; and a sister, Vera Foos.
