DARLENE MARGARET BALSTER, age 80, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Wilmont, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born January 14, 1938, in Pipestone, to Dominic and Helen (Bostic) Wagner. She graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic High School.
Darlene married Franklin "Red" Balster on October 11, 1956, at Our Lady Of Good Counsel Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Wilmont. Darlene was employed as a catering manager at the Holiday Inn in Worthington, a clerk for the City of Wilmont and a travel guide for Jack Rabbit Bus Lines. She was also a front desk clerk at many hotels in the area.
She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and the Wilmont VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Darlene is survived by her seven children, Sharon (John) Krogstad, Granite Falls; Jeff (Connie) Balster, Sheldon, IA; Cathy (Ron) Bruns, Castle Rock, CO; Laurie (Steven) Wieneke, Lismore; Linda (Keith) Sorenson, Granite Falls; Mark (special friend, Julie) Balster, Spirit Lake, IA; and Michael (Melinda) Balster, Worthington; daughter-in-law, Candace Balster; thirteen grandchildren, Aaron Balster, Kyle (Sarah) Balster, Justin Balster, Chris Balster, Sam Bruns, Jacob Bruns, Carmen (Orey) Fey, Katie Wieneke, Kelsey, Sorenson, Miranda Balster, Landon Balster, Jordan Balster and Karissa Balster; two great-grandchildren Paige and Kennedy Balster; and three sisters, Dolores Hebig, Marshall; Marlene (John "Whitey") Jueneman, Wilmont; and Lois (Jerry) Peil, Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Red on May 16, 2005; son, Steven in 2013; granddaughter, Jessica Balster in 2016; sister, Karen Loosbrock in 2014; and an infant brother, Leon Wagner.
A time of fellowship will be from 3-5 pm Sunday, with Parish Prayers and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Service at 3 pm, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. A Memorial Mass will be 10 am Monday at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial of cremains will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont.
