DARREL DEAN BRIGGS, age 66, of Worthington, died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at his home. He was born January 22, 1945 in Tyler, MN; to parents Marvin and Vivian (Moen) Briggs. He graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1963. He was baptized and confirmed at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson. Darrel worked as an orderly at the Murray County Hospital and helped on the family farm.
Darrel was united in marriage to Marianne Reether on October 9, 1965 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN. After their marriage they farmed near Wilmont until 1969 when they moved to Lake Wilson and later to Minneapolis. They moved to Worthington in January of 1970. He then worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. After the railroad employment he worked in sales and marketing. He had been the owner of a water treatment business for many years.
Darrel was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington. He enjoyed classic cars, boating, camping, antique tractors, fishing and his business trade shows and fairs.
He is survived by his wife, Marianne Briggs, Worthington, MN; children, Rhonda (Paul) Besel, Austin, MN; Darla Hammel and special friend Kevin Kautz, Zumbro Falls, MN; and Chan Briggs (Tiffany Scott), Worthington, MN; six grandchildren, Tucker and Mckenzie Besel, Hailee and Carson Hammel,Payne Briggs and Beau Scott; a sister, Sandra (Rod) Poppema, Worthington, MN; one niece and two nephews and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
