DAVID LEONARD STEINHOFF, age 75 of Luverne, died Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Bethany Lutheran Home, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born on September 28, 1950, in Sioux Falls, to Leonard and Martha (Deitermann) Steinhoff.

   David graduated from Magnolia High School in 1968 and continued his education at Worthington Community College and later graduated from Mankato State in 1972 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He spent a short time working at First National Bank in Worthington, but it was always his goal to farm.

   As a young man David had an adventurous spirit. He got his pilot and motorcycle licenses. He rode motorcycle all over North America including Mexico, Canada, Alaska and many trips to Sturgis for the motorcycle rally.

   David married Joan Benz on January 18, 1975. Together they had three children. They farmed near Magnolia until moving to a farm near Luverne in 1984. David farmed until retiring in 2018. He loved the farm and lived there until his health required him to move to the Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls.

   He was an avid collector of antique tractors, cars and motorcycles. He traveled across the country in search of those items. He compiled impressive collections, putting together rare items.

   David is survived by his three sons, Matthew Steinhoff, Jasper, MN; J.D. (Sheila) Steinhoff, Steen, MN; Eric (Danielle) Steinhoff, Circle Pines, MN; nine grandchildren, Cody, Larissa, Kaitlyn, Ava, Benjamin, Annabelle, Josephine, Catherine and Charlotte; sister, Debra (Dan) Steinhoff, Tea, SD; brother Daryl (Barb) Steinhoff, Beaufort, NC.

   He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard & Martha and two brothers, Daniel & Douglas.

   Visitation will be Thursday July 9, 2026, from 12-2pm at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2pm Thursday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, officiated by Father Joshua Miller. Burial will be at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Luverne.
