DAVID ANDERS STROH, age 75, of Luverne, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. He was born January 31, 1938, in Luverne, to Jerry and Effie (Anderson) Stroh. Dave attended country school in rural Rock Co. at Dist. 4 West. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1956; and later served his country in the Luverne National Guard. Dave worked at various places in Luverne including Nelson's Grocery, Rolf Construction and Vegge Farms. He bought the home place from his parents in the late 1960's, adding more farms over the years to total 450 acres. Dave raised fat cattle reaching a herd of 1500 head. In later years, he went to a cow-calf operation with the help of his son, Mike, who continues to run the farming operation.
Dave married Judy Johnson on February 17, 1973, at West Nideros Lutheran Church in Crooks, SD. He brought Judy and her three children, Carrie, Dan & Janet to the family farm and a year later had a son Michael.
He was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. Dave enjoyed traveling with his family throughout the western United States, trying to visit as many national parks as possible. Dave & Judy traveled to the Bahamas, Hawaii & Mexico. In keeping with Dave's loving & generous spirit, it was his decision to donate life so that others may cherish renewed sight & health.
Dave is survived by his wife, Judy Stroh, Luverne; four children, Carrie (Larry) Frey, Luverne; Dan Johnson, Luverne; Janet Donkersloot, Valley Springs, SD; and Mike (Tanya) Stroh, Luverne; fifteen grandchildren, Shawna Brandt, Peggy Boyles, Matthew Carlson, Amanda McTigue, Traci Carlson, Heather Frey, Dustin & Derek Johnson, Shaun, Trisha & David Donkersloot, Nick DenHerder, Jacob & Joshua Stroh & Taylor Heck; twenty nine great grandchildren; brother, Harold (Carol) Stroh, Luverne; and his sister, Helen Biren, Owatonna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Stroh; daughter-in-law, Darla Johnson; and a great grandson, Trevor Donkersloot.
A visitation will be from 5-8 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:00 AM Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Ron Nichols. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
