DELBERT JOSEPH LUTMER, age 84, of Luverne, formerly of Lismore, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born October 2, 1926, in St. Kilian, to Louis and Mary (Voss) Lutmer. He graduated from St. Anthony Catholic High School in 1944. In December of 1944, Delbert was inducted into the United States Army and spent 1945 in the Philippines. He received The ASIATIC Pacific Campaign Metal, The Good Conduct Metal, The Philippines Liberation Ribbon, The Philippians Independence Ribbon, and The WWII Victory Metal. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to Lismore. Delbert married Mary Alice Bullerman on December 29, 1959, in St. Adrian Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in Lismore. Delbert served as a Rural Mail Carrier from August 7, 1950 to January 7, 1971. He served as Officer in Charge from January 8, 1971 to June 11, 1971. On June 12, 1971, he became Postmaster of the Lismore Post Office. He retired on December 31, 1987. The couple moved to Luverne in 2009. He was a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Lismore, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters; he served on various church boards and as Sexton of the St. Anthony Cemetery from 1967 to 2008. Delbert was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne; the Lismore Senior Citizens; Lismore Booster Club; and a Charter member of the Lismore American Legion Post #636. He also served as Nobles County Commissioner from 1989 to 2001. Delbert is survived by his wife, Mary Lutmer, Luverne; four children, Jean (Dick) Regis, Apple Valley; Joan Lutmer, Apple Valley; John (Jill) Lutmer, Pierre, SD; and Jim (Bobbi) Lutmer, Perry, IA; seven grandchildren, Carla & Corey Betchwars; and Jonathan, Jordan, Molly, Jessica & Jared Lutmer; and three sisters, Bernice Arnes, Mahnomen; Audrey Reisdorfer, Worthington; and Rita (Anthony) Lonneman. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; sister, Mildred Gleis; and three brothers-in-law, Morris Reisdorfer, Nick Gleis & Joe Arnes. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday, with parish prayers at 4 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Burial will be at the St. Anthony Cemetery , in Lismore, at 1 pm Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred to The Minnesota Veterans Home, 1300 N. Kniss, Luverne, MN 56156.
