DELORES DONNA CONNELL, age 87, of Luverne, died Friday, September 13, 2013, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. She was born September 7, 1926, in Valley Springs, SD, to Leonard and Verdi (Newberg) Ormseth. She attended country school in rural Beaver Creek; and received her GED in 1980.
Delores married Leo M. Connell on August 19, 1942, in Sioux City, IA. After Leo returned from serving his country in WWII, the couple moved to Luverne. Delores worked at various places in Luverne including, Bots Drug Store and Long's Café. Delores & Leo also worked as custodians at IBP in Luverne. She became a resident of Centennial Apartments in 2000.
She was a proud member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne; the Ladies Aid; and the Luverne American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered at the Luverne American Legion & the Minnesota Veterans Home. Delores loved making people happy. She wanted them to enjoy life by thinking happy thoughts. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins; and visiting with her extended family at the Centennial Apartments.
Delores is survived by her six children, Tom (Karen) Connell, Freemont, NE; Dick (Jackie) Connell, Champlin; Dennis (Ladonna) Connell, Phoenix, AZ; Nancy (Mike) Vance, Luverne; Pat (Don) Bents, Worthington; and Mark (Mary) Connell, Maple Grove; fourteen grandchildren, Tim Connell, Pam (Dave) Schmeling, Amy (Scott) Painter, Chad (Deb) Connell, James Connell, Tracy (Kathy) Connell, Lisa (Art) Olson, Kim (Brian) Dillon, Jenni (Bob) Powell, Shelly Vance, Vickie (Greg) Fikse, Erin Connell, Tammy Bents & Greg (Kim) Bents; twenty plus great grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Peg) Ormseth, Roswell, NM; and Lorraine Ackroyd, Roswell, NM.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on December 20, 2006; two sons, John in 1962; and Jerry in 1997; brother, Jason Ormseth; and two sisters, Connie Corn & Betty Lentner.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Andrew Palmquist. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bethany Lutheran Church or the Sanford Hospice of Luverne.
