DENNIS "DOC" LEO JOHANNING, age 74, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. He was born May 16, 1948, in Adrian, to Aloysius "Aloys" and Matilda "Tillie" (Fink) Johanning. He attended St. Adrian Catholic School before graduating from Ellsworth High School. He later attended Jackson VO Tech.

Dennis married Patricia Birkett in February of 1968, in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Luverne and Worthington before moving to Adrian. The couple later divorced. Dennis owned & operated a trucking business before he began working as a dispatcher for Prins Trucking in Worthington.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and racing. Dennis loved spending over thirty years camping by Round Lake. He was one of the originals at Hilltop Campground.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Carmen (Mark) Johanning-Braley, Richmond, VA; son, Shane Johanning, Slayton; two grandchildren, Derek Braley, Richmond, VA; and Rachel (Isaac) Braley Guzman, Richmond, VA; three great-grandchildren, Eli, Aella and Jonah Guzman; four brothers, Ron (friend Dolly) Johanning, Estero, FL; Loren (Connie) Johanning, Heron Lake; Tom (Shirley) Johanning, Waubay, SD; and Roger Johanning, Waubay, SD; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloys and Tillie (Svehla) Johanning; step father, Frank Svehla; infant sister, Elizabeth; brother, Marvin Johanning; and three sisters-in-law, Karen, Verla and Helene "Curly" Johanning.

Visitation will be Friday Dec. 9, from 4 to 6:30 PM at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Saturday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti and Deacon Vern Behrends. A private family burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
