DENNIS RAY SCHADWINKEL, age 73, of Luverne, died Monday, November 28, 2016, at his home. He was born July 9, 1944, in Luverne, to Raymond and Christena (Solma) Schadwinkel. He graduated from Luverne High School in 1963. Denny served his country in the Minnesota National Guard.
Denny lived in Luverne all of his life. He sold insurance for Combined Insurance before working at various gas stations in Luverne including Amoco and Mobil. Denny later operated the Kerr-McGee station. He worked at Herman Motors for several years before he began working at Manley Tires. After he retired, Denny worked part time at Glens Foods.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne; Pheasants Forever; Ducks Unlimited; the Luverne American Legion; the Luverne VFW; and the Luverne Lions Club where he had served as President in 1995 and had received the Melvin Jones Award. Denny was an avid duck & pheasant hunter. He enjoyed working on cars and watching Sprint Car races. He was a huge NASCAR and Minnesota Vikings fan.
Denny is survived by his son, Todd Schadwinkel, Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Barbara (Don) Westerbur, Jasper; two nephews, Bryce and Weston Matthiesen; four nieces, Deb Fredricks, Bridgette Benz, Kayla Swensen and Melissa Moore Somnis; and many great nieces & nephews, including Nicki Hilt & Nomi Lorenzen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rick Schnepf; and a sister, Connie Swensen.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the United Methodist Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Theodora Hall. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
