DENNIS RAY SOMNIS, age 72, of Worthington, died Wednesday, March 31st, 2021, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born July 8th, 1948, in Pipestone, to Robert and Jean (Ross) Somnis.

As a young boy, Dennis and the rest of the Somnis family moved to reading. Dennis grew up in Reading and graduated from Worthington High School in 1966. He worked part time for the Rock Island Rail Road while going to school and eventually joined the United States Army. Dennis was able to take time on leave from the Army and married Colleen Persing on November 9th, 1968 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont, MN. Dennis was then deployed to Vietnam on January 1st, 1969 and returned on January 1st, 1970. He worked with Rock Island Railroad until 1975 and also with the Wilmont Farmers Elevator until retirement in 2011.

Dennis was a member of the Wilmont Fire Department, the Wilmont VFW, and the Worthington Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, model rail road, and he especially loved spending time with his family. Words cannot describe how loving and supportive Dennis was to his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Colleen Somnis; four children, Darrin Somnis; Denise Somnis (Pat Kunerth); Jennifer Somnis; Stacie (Dennis) Miller; Six grandchildren, Mark Kunerth, Derek Somnis, Logan Somnis, Isaac Somnis, Ayden Miller, and Lia Miller; brother, Jeff (Marla) Somnis; sisters, Wanda (Mike) Larson,  Chardelle Jenkins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jean (Ross) Somnis; and two brothers, Warren Somnis and Darwin Somnis.

A visitation will be held at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington on Monday, April 5th, from 5 to 7 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington.

A graveside service with military honors will be Tuesday, April 6th, at 10:00 at the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont (processing from the Funeral Home at 9:30).
