DOLORES LOUISE SUHR, age 87, of Luverne, MN died Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center.
She was born June 24, 1927, on a farm near Alexandria, SD, to William E. and Erna (Kutschinski) Friedrichs. Dolores was baptized July 17, 1927 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Alexandria. As a young child, she moved with her family to rural Charter Oak, IA. She attended country school and St. John Lutheran School. She was confirmed March 17, 1940 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, and graduated from Charter Oak High School in 1944.
Following graduation, she moved to Sioux City and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for thirteen years. She held various positions there eventually becoming Business Office Supervisor. While in Sioux City, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and an active member of the Walther League. She met Raymond W. Suhr through church activities and they were married on September 1, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, IA. Except for two years when the couple moved to New Ulm, they lived in Luverne their entire married life.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne; a charter member of the Wednesday Morning Bible Study; involved with Project Compassion and a member of Women's Society & Circle. She was past president of the Pipestone Zone of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and attended a number of LWML national conventions. She enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, community concerts & theatre. She had served as an election judge. She became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Home, in Luverne, in December of 2010.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Kristin Suhr, Luverne; brother, Don (Nadine) Friedrichs, Charter Oak, IA; sister, Rita (Delbert) Lafrentz, Mapleton, IA; many nieces, nephews and other family & friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond, in February of 2009; sister, Lavaughn & her husband, Irvin Schultz; nephews Troy Lafrentz & Roger Suhr; her husband's siblings and their spouses, Norman & Esther Suhr, Wilmer & Ardelle Suhr, and Lorraine & Virgil Wollenburg.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be 2 pm Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Gary Klatt. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
