DOLORES C. BERNING, age 84, of Adrian, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. She was born October 23, 1932, in Adrian, to Elmer and Helen (Engbarth) Konz. She graduated from St. Adrian Catholic High School. Dolores worked as a waitress and at the grocery stores in Adrian.

Dolores married Ed Berning on August 17, 1954, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. The couple farmed by Wilmont for twelve years. In 1967, they moved to Adrian. Dolores worked as a cook at the Arnold Memorial Nursing Home, in Adrian, for twenty two years before retiring in 1992. In 2015, Dolores & Ed moved to their apartment in Adrian on Tennessee Avenue. On March 20, 2017, Dolores moved to the Hospice Cottage.

She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church; and the St. Adrian WCCW. She enjoyed baking, playing cards, traveling to casinos with Ed; and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren; and great grandchildren.

Dolores is survived by her husband, Ed Berning, Adrian; three children, Doug (Willy) Berning, Adrian; Diane (Dave) Banck, Luverne; and Larry "Kono" Berning (special friend, Tess Vander Plaats) Adrian; four grandchildren, Bryan Banck (special friend, Andrea Bender) Tim (Becky) Banck, Kelly (Rory Witt and Jeremy (Alesha) Berning; seven great grandchildren, Roman, Tyla, Tucker, Ann, Braxton, Jessa & Kirby; five siblings, Vida Konz, Adrian; Leo (Ann) Konz, Adrian; Joe (Karen) Konz, Brandon, SD; Tony (Nancy) Konz, Adrian; and Mary (Randy) Reisdorfer, Adrian; two brothers-in-law, Al Berning, Luverne; and Jim (Rita) Berning, Owatonna; sister-in-law, Marie Smeins, Luverne; and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jason Berning in 2002; two brothers, David & Carl Konz; father & mother-in-law, Henry & Louise (Farwick) Berning; and brother & sisters-in-law, Ralph & Lorraine Van Peursum, George & Doris Berning, Gertrude Berning & Myron Smeins.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, with parish prayers at 7 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation also from 1 to 1:45 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 2 pm Saturday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. James Berning & Monsignor Rick Coletti. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
