DONALD ANTONE HANSEN, age 79, of Luverne, died Saturday, November 3, 2012, at his home. He was born June 21, 1933, in Homer, NE, to Harry and Melissa (Betts) Hansen. Don attended Leeds High School in Leeds, IA. He served his country during the Korean Conflict, in the United States Navy, from July 11, 1950 to April 15, 1954.
Don married Joyce Bohlke on November 27, 1954, in Leeds, IA. After their marriage, the couple lived in Leeds, IA. Don worked for the Great Northern Railroad in Sioux City, IA. After the railroad closed, Don began working at Thermo-King in South Sioux City, IA. The family moved to Luverne in 1969. Thermo-King became IBP where Don continued to work. In 1986, Don began raising pigs northeast of Luverne. After he retired, Don enjoyed farming with Larry Lenz. The couple moved into Luverne in 2001.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne; the Knights of Columbus; and the Luverne VFW and Coties. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, playing euchre, feeding his birds & squirrels and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Don is survived by his wife, Joyce Hansen, Luverne; five children, Cherie (Randy) Jensen, Luverne; Karen Demuth, Luverne; Carla (Steve) Van Santen, Luverne; Brian (Oreannena) Hansen, Brandon, SD; and Carrie Casale, Andover; daughter-in-law, Cindi Hansen, Camano Island, WA; fourteen grandchildren, Donald Hansen, Carl Hansen, Daniel Hansen, Jessica (Perry) Mogler, Jamie Jensen, JR Jensen, Kristi (Mark) Kruger, Karson Demuth, Amy "Pookie" (Nick) Domagala, Taylor Van Santen, Shelby Van Santen, Tara (Jason) Thompson, Dylan Casale & Hannah Casale; sixteen great grandchildren; twin brother and sister, Charles "Dick" Hansen, Leeds, IA; and Virginia "Gidge" Hurni, Leeds, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Wade, on January 30, 2012; and three brothers, Billy, Jerry & Bob Hansen.
