DONALD R. LURSEN, age 79, of Adrian, died Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. He was born February 9, 1935, in Luverne, to John and Laura (Wilkens) Lursen. Don attended country school in Dist. 11 through the eighth grade, then he stayed home to help farm. Don enlisted into the National Guard in 1957 and served for six months at Ft. Leonardwood in Missouri. He then served five and a half years of National Guard Army Reserve.
Don married Mary Carol Metz on November 21, 1957, at the St. Adrian Rectory. The couple made their home in Adrian and were blessed with four children. Don worked for over five years at Oertli Services in Adrian. Then in 1964, he started his own business known as "Don's Radio & TV" where he worked for forty years before retiring. During that time, he also served on Adrian's Volunteer Fire Department for twenty three years and pulled the Adrian Chamber of Commerce Float through parades at neighboring towns for twenty five years.
He was a member of the Adrian Chamber of Commerce; the Arnold Memorial Hospital Board; and the Adrian Ambulance Crew. He enjoyed car racing and working in the pits.
Don is survived by his wife, Mary Lursen, Adrian; four children, Sandy (John) Klinkenborg, Anoka; Sharon (Larry) Balster, Adrian; Kevin (Amy) Lursen, Adrian; and Lori (Gregg) Bosse, Jefferson, SD; fifteen grandchildren, Casey (Liz) Klinkenborg, Lindsy (Patrick) Gornick, Kelly (Matt) Olson, Jeremy Balster, Tara (Corey) Luettel, Jordan (Brandi) Balster, Jana (fiancée, Kenny Willers) Balster, Jaden Balster, Stephaine (Jake) Leighty, Tyler Lursen, Heidi (fiancée, Josh Baker) Lursen, Heather (Ethan) Heideman, Alicia Bosse, Haley Bosse & Brady Bosse; twelve great grandchildren; Sawyer, Raelee, Brooklyn, Avery, Cadence, Phillip, Ainsley, Oliver, Tenley, Kysten, Karsen & Paytin; and a sister-in-law, Martha Lursen, Adrian.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alice Pieper; and a brother, Clarence Lursen.
Visitation will be from 2-5 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 am Monday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Andrew Beerman. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
