DONNA FAYE BALSTER, age 87, of Adrian, died Friday, August 12, 2011, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born January 23, 1924, on the family farm in Little Rock Township, rural Nobles County, to Oney and Minnie (Busse) Herding. She attended grade school at Ellsworth Elementary School.
On the day Donna was baptized, March 14, 1941, she married Edward Conrad Balster, in Little Rock, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Little Rock, IA and Rushmore before buying the farm southwest of Lismore. They retired from farming and moved to Adrian in 1973. Donna became a resident of the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in 2005.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lismore, where she had taught Sunday School; the Ladies Aid; and a former member of the Adrian PTA. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bowling and dancing. She was known for her homemade bread and her love of children.
Donna is survived by her five children, Kathleen Beaubien, Ellsworth; LaDonna Werner, Clarkfield; Judy Reese, Sheldon, IA; Ed (special friend Bonnie) Balster, Clarkfield; and Keith Balster, rural Lismore; nineteen grandchildren; forty one great grandchildren; and two soon to be great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward, in 1974; son, Eugene, in 1983; two grandchildren, Anthony Reese & Shaun Beaubien; and a son-in-law, Robert Werner.
