DOREEN TREASE "EGAN" VORTHERMS, age 81, of Adrian, passed away Friday, May 25th, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. surrounded by loved ones. Doreen was born in Ellsworth, MN on April 9th, 1931 to Frank and Agnes (Holleran) Egan. She attended school at St. Mary's Catholic School in Ellsworth, St. Catherine's School in Luverne and graduated from St. Adrian's Catholic High School.
Doreen attended Northwestern Institute of Medicine in Minneapolis, MN, graduating with a degree as a Laboratory and X-ray Technician. She married Orville Vortherms in 1950. Doreen worked at the Slayton Hospital and Clinic, then at the Adrian Hospital. She worked at Oxford Labs in Worthington, Rest Home in Adrian, Nobles County Opportunity Services, and at CCSI in Worthington until retirement.
Doreen was a member of the St. Adrian's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She loved attending her bible study group and volunteered as a pink lady at Adrian's Nursing Home and for hospice. In 2009, she moved to Luverne to the Centennial apartments and was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and volunteered at Luverne Sanford Hospital.
In July of 2011, Doreen moved back to Adrian to the Country Cottage Assisted Living.

Doreen is survived by 14 of her children: Kevin Vortherms, Lismore, MN; Steven Vortherms, Cleveland, OH; Pamela (Dan) Dobson, Luverne, MN; Patrice (Randy) Vander Veen, Hutchinson, MN; Eugene Vortherms, Adrian, MN;  Cynthia Vortherms, Adrian, MN; Mary (Blas) Gonzales, Hutchinson, MN; James (Kristie) Vortherms, Sioux Falls, SD; Jane (David) Mork, Osakis, MN; daughter-in-law Deanne Vortherms, Sioux Falls, SD; Bruce (Michele) Vortherms, Adrian, MN; Timothy (Sara) Vortherms, Adrian, MN; Kelly (Connie) Vortherms, Worthington, MN; Amy Rosales, Adrian, MN, Angela Vortherms, Luverne, MN; and Oscar Rosales, Adrian, MN; thirty grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Mertz Vortherms, Ruthton, MN; Roselyn Vortherms, Sioux Falls, SD; Anna and Dan Harris, Fairmont, MN; Bill and Audrey Vortherms, Luverne, MN; Mary Ellen Vortherms, Worthington, MN; Don and Judy Vortherms, Reading, MN; Arnie and Linda Penning, Morgan, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Doreen was preceded in death by her two sons, David  and Jeffrey Vortherms; grandson, son-in-law, Norman Jellema; granddaughter Stacey Jellema; grandson, Eric Dobson; great-granddaughter, Kendahl Vortherms; five brothers; a sister; parents; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Monday, with parish prayers at 5 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings & Msgr. Eugene Egan. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery following lunch & fellowship at the church.
