DORIS MAE BERNING, age 84, of Luverne, died Sunday, September 4, 2016, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. She was born August 11, 1932, in Worthington, to Garnett O. and Thelma (Potter) Garrett. Doris was baptized in the Church of Christ in Worthington. She attended school in Worthington.

Doris married S. George Berning on April 21, 1950, at the Parsonage at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Lismore. After their marriage, the couple farmed southwest of Lismore. In 1963, they moved to the farm northeast of Adrian. They began farming southeast of Lismore in 1967. In 1984, they retired and moved to Luverne. Doris was a homemaker and also worked at Campbell's Soup in Worthington before working at Sailor Plastics in Adrian.

She was a member St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and the WCCW. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening & fishing.

Doris is survived by her three brothers-in-law, Alvin Berning, Adrian; Ed (Dolores) Berning, Adrian; and Jim (Rita) Berning, Owatonna; two sisters-in-law, Marie Smeins, Luverne; and Bev Garrett, Lake City; many nieces & nephews; and many great nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George on August 24, 2010; daughter, Arlene Housmann in 1984; three brothers, Clifford, Maynard & Gaylord Garrett; and a sister, Audra Heeren.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm with Parish Prayers at 6:30 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thbursday. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Thursday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings & Fr. James Berning. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
