IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy (Ruisch)
Prins
February 4, 1917 – December 14, 2016
DOROTHY PRINS, age 99, of Edgerton, formerly of Leota, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. She was born February 4, 1917, on a farm south of Leota, to Dick and Nellie (Beukelman) Ruisch. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota and attended country schools in the Leota area.
She had four brothers, Pete, Nelvin, Howard & William. The family was split up after her mother died when Dorothy was twelve years of age, at which time she made her home with her Uncle Ed and Aunt Minnie Beukelman. At the age of seventeen, she went to the home of her Uncles, Neal and Marinus Beukelman to care for her blind grandfather.
Dorothy married Henry Prins on February 15, 1940, at the home of her uncles in Leota. The couple had three children, a son, Vernon; and two daughters, Nelma & Diana. They farmed in the Leota area for twenty five years. On October 15, 1965, they moved to Sheldon, IA, where they were managers at the Christian Retirement Home until 1980, at which time they retired and moved to Leota. In November of 2002, the couple moved to Edgebrook Estates in Edgerton. After the passing of her husband, Henry, Dorothy became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center.
She was a faithful member of the Bethel Reformed Church, in Leota, and a member of the Esther Circle. She enjoyed embroidering & canning. Everyone loved her salted peanut butter cookies! Dorothy was also a wonderful inspiration to her family about the wonderful teachings of God. She will be greatly missed.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Vernon (Arlis) Prins, Leota; Nelma (Ken) Groninga, Detroit Lakes, and Diana Jahn, Garnett, KS; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Prins; and four brothers, William, Nelvin, Howard & Pete Ruisch.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday at the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. Funeral will be 10:30 am Tuesday at the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery.
