DOROTHY SMIENS, age 95, of Luverne, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at the Sanford Hospital in Luverne. She was born May 2, 1914, in rural Nobles County, near Magnolia, to Henry and Mary (Campbell) Vogt. She attended grade school in District #64 and graduated from Magnolia High School in 1933. Dorothy married Arthur Smiens on March 18, 1937, in Ellsworth. After their marriage, the couple lived in Clarkfield where they owned and operated a restaurant. She was a member of the Magnolia Methodist Church; the Naomi Circle; and the RSVP. Dorothy is survived by her four children, Leon (Sharon) Smiens, Chaska; Loren Smiens, Corning, IA; Judith (Jim) Smith, Appleton; and Arlyn (Dagne) Smiens, Montevideo; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; brother, Raymond Vogt, Luverne; and three sisters, Ruth Ashby, Luverne; Virginia Schei, Luverne; and June (Bill) Nath, Luverne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur, on February 9, 1984; and a sister, Edna.
