Obituary

DOUGLAS WILLIAM STEINHOFF, age 53, of Oshkosh, WI & Daytona Beach, FL, died Monday, February 6, 2012, from bone cancer, at the Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, WI. He was born February 22, 1958, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Leonard and Martha (Deitermann) Steinhoff, of Magnolia, MN. Doug graduated from Magnolia High School in 1976. In 1978, he graduated from Worthington Community College. He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Mankato, with a B.S. Degree in Business & Aviation, in 1980. He received a Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh.
During his career, Doug managed several farm co-ops and fertilizer plants at Lewiston, MN and Pickett, Eldorado, Rosendale and Fond du Lac, WI. He served on the Boards of Directors for Midland, Cenex and the National Board of Land O' Lakes.
While in Oshkosh, Doug designed & developed the Planeview Truck and Travel Plaza near the site of the EAA airport. He also served as President and Administrative Manager of the organization.
At an early age Doug demonstrated a love of business & music. Combining the two, he co-established and managed several rock bands including Strutter and Blue Earth. While in Wisconsin, he became a successful band promoter & entertainer with his rock-n-roll show band, Back Again. The Back Again band opened for headliner greats such as Chuck Berry, Lover Boy & Sha Na Na.
Doug enjoyed motorcycles and cars his entire life. He became the first out-of-state member of the Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club. The club started the annual motorcycle races and rally in Sturgis, SD. Doug's drag cars finished in the Top 3 of Wisconsin drag racing and the top 10 nationwide.
Doug is survived by his mother, Martha Steinhoff, Sioux Falls, SD; ex-wife, Kris and step daughter, Brittany Crane (Christopher), Oshkosh, WI; two brothers, David Steinhoff, Luverne, MN; and Daryl Steinhoff, Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Debra Steinhoff, Sioux Falls, SD; and six nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard, in 1989; and brother, Daniel, in 2009.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral will be 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Gerald Kosse. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
