DUANE G. AXDAHL, age 81, of Iona, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born August 22, 1932, in Paullina, IA, to Arthur and Mabel (Hansen) Axdahl. Duane attended country school near Iona. In 1953, he entered the United States Army and served his country for four years, in Germany, with the 87th Armored Division.
Duane grew up near Iona and began farming near Pfingston in 1957. He moved to Slayton in 1993. In 2006, he moved to the Prairie House in Worthington. He became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne, in 2012.
He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Worthington and the Ione VFW. He enjoyed farming, working with his animals and spending time with his family.
Duane is survived by his sister, Alice Persing, Worthington; brother, Arlen (Dios Cora Bueneia) Axdahl, Titusville, FL; brother-in-law, Art Longie, Seattle, WA; seven nieces & nephews, Wanda Renken, Worthington; Robert Persing (Rich Reinville) Tampa, FL, Dale (Diane) Persing, Rolland Heights, CA; Sharon (Ray) Lopez, Redding, CA; Glenn (Barb) Persing, Worthington, Joe (Merle) Persing, Heron Lake, and David (Brooke) Hatami, Clearwater, FL; and many great nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Julia Ann Axdahl; a sister, Ida Marie Longie; and a brother, Donald Axdahl.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am Saturday at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at the American Lutheran Church, in Worthington, officiated by Rev. Renee Tecklenburg. Burial will be Saturday at 12:30 pm At the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Iona.
