Obituary

DUANE G. PIKE, age 84, of Luverne, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage. He was born September 27, 1932, in Yankton, SD, to George and Katie (Stickley) Pike. He attended grade school in Yankton, SD. Duane enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 where he earned his GED while serving his country. Duane served in France during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged in 1953. He then attended four years of college in Springfield, SD.

Duane was united in marriage to Mary Schmitt on August 31, 1955, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee, NE. After their marriage, the couple lived in Yankton, SD, where Duane worked for Lehman TV and APCO gas station. In 1968, they moved to Luverne and Duane worked for L & S Electric for a short time until he opened Duane's TV Service in January of 1970. In 1973, the couple purchased, remodeled and moved their business and family into the former Baptist Church on Main Street in Luverne. Duane expanded his family run business into a New and used Furniture Store where he worked from 1980 until 1995. He also drove school bus for twelve years while in the furniture business. Duane semi-retired in 1995 and opened the Brown Church Antiques Store until he fully retired in 2010. He was self-employed for over forty years and always had the best business partner, his wife Mary.

He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church; American Legion Post 123; and a life time member of the VFW Post 2757. Duane also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, woodworking, antiques, and spending time with his family.

Duane is survived by his wife Mary, of sixty one years, Luverne; seven children, Diane (Michael) Casanova, Eden Prairie; Linda (Stanley) Schriock, Mankato; Kathy (James) Hall, Goodlettsville, TN; Keith (Sue) Pike, Sioux Falls, SD; Bryan (Sharon) Pike, Brainerd; Brenda (Douglas) Deffenbaugh, Hartford, SD; and Sandra Pike, Sioux Falls, SD; sixteen grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William "Bill" Pike.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday, with parish prayers at 8 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. A Mass of Chriatian burial will be 11 am Thursday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, in Luverne, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Burial with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
