DURKY BAAR, age 95, of Leota, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton. She was born on September 12, 1915 to parents Carl and Gertrude (Bruxvoort) Kreun on a farm near Ada, MN. At the age of 1 ? the family moved to Chanarambie Valley west of Chandler, MN. She attended country schools thru the 8th grade. She was baptized and professed her faith in the Chandler Reformed Church. On June 24, 1937, Durky married Reinart Baar. After several years of farming, they moved in 1945 to an acreage by Kreun Lumber Co. near Leota, MN where Reinart became manager of Kreun Lumber Co. Reinart died in 1980. Durky moved to Leota in 1981. She became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center on April 1, 2002. Durky?s interests included gardening and bird watching. She spent many enjoyable hours doing volunteer work for many organizations including teaching ESL classes in Worthington, MN, The Alpha Center in Sioux Falls, SD, The Bible League, Leota Christian School and Southwest Christian High School. She especially enjoyed reading to the younger children at Leota Christian School. She was very involved with Bible study groups, work groups and the Mission Committee in her church, Ebenezer CRC, Leota. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family and many individuals and organizations. Durky is survived by five sons, Anthony (Velva) Baar, Grand Rapids, MI; Clares (Marly) Baar, Grand Rapids, MI; Daryl (Dorothy) Baar, Sioux Falls, SD; Eugene (Cindy) Baar, Grand Rapids, MI; Ron (Nell) Baar, Manhattan, MT; 15 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Henry (Ruby) Kreun, Chandler, MN; Chuck (Kathy) Kreun, Otsego, MI; five sisters, Jo Pals, Edgerton, MN; Jan Schenk, Artesia, CA; Caroline Schierbeek, Holland, MI; Betty Van Essen, Edgerton, MN; and Priscilla (Cliff) Christians, Champaign, IL; and many nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Reinart, grandson, Todd Baar, great-grandson, Hunter Swainston, brothers, Brant and Bill Kreun and sisters, Adriana Roelofs and Edith VandeBunte.
