EARL S. GLASER, age 99, of Luverne, died peacefully Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. He was born February 4, 1918, in Luverne, to Peter and Minnie (Soehren) Glaser. Earl graduated from Luverne High School in 1936. He began working at Nelson Brothers Department Store in the spring of 1939. He entered the United States Army Air Corps in June of 1942, and served as a musician until 1944. He then transferred into the infantry and was shipped to Germany. He served in the Army of Occupation until he was discharged in March 1946.
Earl married Frances Willett on April 1, 1944, in St. Louis, MO. After Earl returned from overseas service, the couple lived in Luverne. Earl began to work as a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne; the Knights of Columbus; the Jaycees; and the Luverne VFW. In addition, he was on the Board of the Blue Mound Theater where he served as President, proudly participating in the Palace Theater restoration. He was instrumental in starting "Christmas at the Palace," where church choirs could perform their music. He was also proud to be a member of the Luverne Last Man Standing Coffee Clique.
Earl is survived by his five children, Barbara Ramirez, Seneca, SC; Linda (Bruce) Olson, Las Vegas, NV; Nancy (Richard) Nisbett, Houston, TX; Elizabeth (Betty) Glaser, Atlanta, GA; and James (Donna) Glaser, Rochester; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Rick) Burgess, Marcia (David) Molloseau, Katherine (Garnett) Ramsbottom, Christine (Jason) Haerich, Matthew Bendixen, Benjamin (Calin) Smedsrud, Peter Luther, Joseph (Ellissa) Glaser & Michael Glaser; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances, on January 1, 1999; grandson, Scott Bendixen; two infant siblings; and two brothers, Lester & Harold Glaser.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Glaser Family Dollars for Scholars Fund.
