Obituary

EDWARD RALEY, age 91, of Rushmore, died Monday, November 7, 2011, at The Meadows in Worthington. He was born July 17, 1920, on the family farm in Humble, SD, to Alfred and Myrtle (Hines) Raley. Ed attended school in Franklin, SD. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Ed married Bertha Lupkes on June 9, 1946, at her parent's farm near Rushmore. After their marriage, the couple farmed north of Rushmore. In 1984, they moved into Rushmore. Ed became a resident of The Meadows in March of 2010.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore; and the Wilmont VFW. Ed enjoyed playing pinochle, fishing and spending time at the family farm which he and Bertha built together. He was a great man who will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Linda (Eugene) Rotharmel, Salinas, CA; son, Daryl (Nadine) Raley, Rushmore; eight grandchildren, Matt, Jesse & Jonathan Raley; Darnell (Mat) Cabanilla, Heather (Brian) Strickland, Michele Walters, Michael Hinton, and Gardell (Sheila) Harms; eight great grandchildren, Leah Harms, Tristan & Spencer Strickland, Ruchell Wyatt, Kylie Walters, Cole Raley, Michael Edward Hinton and Megan Hinton; sister, Ethel Boots, Rushmore; and a sister-in-law, Cedella Raley, Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha, in 2006; daughter, Barbara Harms, in 1983; granddaughter, Samantha Raley, in 1995; four brothers, Clayton, Earnest, Robert & Charley Raley; and a sister, Hazel Raley.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10 am Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, in Rushmore, officiated by Rev. Irwin VanLeeuwen. Burial with full military honors provided by the Wilmont VFW, will be at the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.
