Obituary

EDGAR ?ED? L. BARRIE, age 62, of Worthington, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. He was born December 31, 1947, in Tracy, to Charles and Phyllis (Reynolds) Barrie. Ed graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, in Currie, in 1965. In 1966, he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany where he played semi-pro baseball, touring thirteen countries. He was honorably discharged in 1969. Ed married Dianne Sturges on November 21, 1970, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie. In 1971, the couple moved to an acreage north of Worthington. Ed worked as an assistant manager at Leutholds Clothing in Worthington. In 1977, the family moved into Worthington. Ed started his own surveying business in 1980. He surveyed farm field drainage. Ed was proud to have logged over twenty five million feet of surveying for local contractors & farmers. For the last three years, the couple enjoyed wintering in Texas. He was a member of the Worthington American Legion; the Worthington VFW Men?s Auxiliary Post #3958; the Southwest Minnesota Fishing Club; and the Worthington Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, billiards, cribbage, baseball, softball, watching the Minnesota Twins and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife, Dianne Barrie, Worthington; two children, Jason (Laura) Barrie, Worthington; and Angela (Larry) Pearson, Plainfield, IL; five grandchildren, Tanner, Hannah, Paige, Parker & Aubree; mother, Phyllis Barrie, Westbrook; brother, Chuck (Pam) Barrie, Westbrook; and five sisters, Marvene Barrie, Worthington; Marcia Hein, Hager City, WI; Sheila Krick, Westbrook; Charlene (John) Cooley, Westbrook; and Laura Johnson (fiance, Dick Kruger) Adrian. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Barrie, on October 31, 1994.
