EDGAR S. BIGGARD, age 87, of Kenneth, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. He was born September 30, 1925, in Monongahela, PA, to John and Ida Mae (Strawn) Biggard. Ed graduated from Monongahela High School; and attended Penn State University. He served his country during WWII in Pacific Theater in the United States Navy.
Ed married Lois Jean Walters on June 3, 1955, in Franklin, PA. After their marriage, the couple lived in Franklin. Ed worked as an Industrial Engineer for Joy Manufacturing, making coal mining equipment. In 1960, they moved to Enterprise, KS. They moved to Atchison, KS, in 1965 where Ed worked for Rockwell International. In 1973, they moved to Kearney, NE before moving to State College, PA, in 1975 where Ed worked at Cerro Manufacturing. He retired in 1989 and moved to Luverne in 1998. He moved to rural Kenneth in 2000; and became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home, in Luverne, in August of 2011.
He was a charter member of the Living Rock Church in Luverne.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Jill (Bill) Spieker, rural Kenneth; two grandchildren, Mikaela (Dave) Campbell, Sioux Falls, SD; and Courtney (Jeff) Ballard, Sioux Falls, SD; five step grandchildren, Gretchen (Scott) Simonich, Sioux Falls, SD; Bridget (Cory) Mann, Luverne; Garrett (Cassie) Spieker, Burnsville; Mandy (Curt) Bennett, Beaver Creek; and Dusty (Shannon) Spieker, Travis Air Force Base, CA; eleven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Jean Swick, Trafford, PA; and Frances (Jim) Sillaman, Ephrata, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois, on March 25, 2000; and two brothers, Paul & Leslie Biggard.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; visitation also one hour to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Living Rock Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Billy Skaggs. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne with full military honors provided by the Luverne American Legion & VFW.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Living Rock Church, 500 E. Main Street, Luverne, MN 56156; or the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
