Obituary

Edith Marie Brinkman, 83, of Fulda, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at the Sanford Adrian Care Center. Edith was born on March 5, 1926 to Clara (Goeken) and John Danneman. She was baptized by her Grandfather, Rev. Chris Goeken, at the Immanuel American Lutheran Church (Pfingsten) and was also confirmed there. Edith attended school district #98 and graduated from Fulda High School in 1943. After graduation she was employed at the Citizens State Bank of Fulda. On August 1, 1948, Edith was united in marriage to Ivan L. Brinkman. They moved to Minneapolis where she was employed at Dayton's Department Store when Ivan attended the University of Minnesota. After finishing school, the couple moved to Worthington where Edith was employed by the State Bank of Worthington and later as the secretary for St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. In 1955 they began farming southwest of Fulda. Edith helped farm and was a business partner with her husband for their Brinkman Oil Company. She also worked at various office jobs until retiring in 1996. They continued living on the farm until Ivan became a resident of Maple Lawn, Fulda, in 2001. Edith then moved to the Mapleview Estates in Fulda to be near him until his death. Recently she resided at The Meadows,Worthington. Edith was a member of Immanuel American Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday School and VBS teacher, active in the Altar Guild, Couples Club, Bible Study, and held various offices in the Women's Organization. She was involved with the 4-H program while her children were growing up. She sewed, enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, and in her later years made special scrapbooks for each family member. Edith is survived by her four children and their spouses: JoAnne (Wayne) Smith, Brewster, MN; Mary (Roy) Harrisville, Menomonie, WI; John (Jody) Brinkman, Garretson, SD; Lori (Patrick) Crowley, Lakeville, MN; ten grandchildren, Jennifer (Cory) Vold, James (Carissa) Smith, Brian Smith, Casie Smith, Kendra Harrisville, David Harrisville, Stephanie Brinkman, Chayce Brinkman, Tyler Crowley, and Mason Crowley; four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alex Vold and Lainey and Lee Smith; two sisters, Elaine Alt, Sioux Falls, SD; and Bunice Heidtke, Decorah, IA; one brother, Delbert (Arlene) Danneman, Fulda, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Marianne Behrens, Worthington, MN; and Melba Shelby, Fort Dodge, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ivan in 2003, and infant daughter. Edith will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
