EDWIN LEE MUNKEL, age 67, of Rushmore, died Friday, November 17, 2023, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born November 3, 1956, in Worthington, to George and Wilhelmina (Saathoff) Munkel. He graduated from Worthington High School in in 1975.

Ed married Julie Hieronimus on August 5, 1977, in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived in Worthington before moving to Rushmore in 1991. Ed worked at JBS, in Worthington, for over twenty five years. He later worked part time for Bud's Bus Service in Worthington.

He enjoyed automobile racing, hunting, fishing and his Minnesota Vikings.

Ed is survived by his wife, Julie Munkel, Rushmore; three children, Sara (Darrel) Ponto, Reading; Amber (Kyle) Miller, Marcus, IA; and Mathew Munkel, Rushmore; five grandchildren, Carter & Luke Ponto; and Asya, Brayden & Braxton Miller; two brothers, William Munkel, Sioux Falls, SD; and Robert (Rosella) Munkel, Worthington along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Roger and Dorothy Hieronimus; a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene (Don) Tuin; and a sister-in-law, Geri Munkel.

Ed was known as a giving person and even in death, his giving continues as his donation of tissues will touch the lives of as many as fifty people.

A time of fellowship will be Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 4-7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A private family funeral & burial will take place at a later date.
