Obituary

EDWIN H. SCHETTLER, age 87 of Worthington, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at his home. He was born on March 10, 1922 in Wilmont, MN; to parents John and Augusta (Schafer) Schettler. He attended school through the eight grade. He served his nation during World War II from September of 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 19, 1946. Edwin received eight weeks of training at the Houston Hospital at Houston, TX and became a surgical tech. He served in the Army Field Artillery 691st medics. He went overseas on the George Gobbel ship. Edwin was united in marriage to Phyllis Vogt on January 7, 1947. They were engaged in farming near Wilmont, MN. He was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church and also the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also belonged to the American Legion, VFW, Golden Kiwanis, Elks Lodge and the Senior Men?s Club. Edwin is survived by his wife Phyllis Schettler, Worthington; children, Kevin (Susan) Schettler, Iona; Diane (Larry) Green, Slayton; Donna (Steven) Clarke, Fulda; Renee (David) Vortherms, Worthington; Lois (Melvin) Ruppert, Worthington; 14 grandchildren, James Green, Raymond Green, Robert Green, Jeffrey (Stacy) Vortherms, Greg (Jodi) Vortherms, Daniel (Amanda) Vortherms, Kelly Vortherms Wilkins, Douglas (Katie) Clarke, Philip (Kayla) Clarke, Neil Clarke, Loren (Sarah) Clarke, Amy (Luat) Ngo, Jacob (Abby) Ruppert and Andrew Ruppert, 12 great grandchildren, Ashleigh Green, Erika Vortherms, Ethan Vortherms, Ellie Vortherms, Molly Clarke, Desmond Bixby, Kaston Clarke, Torrin Clarke, Grace Vortherms, Brenden Wilkins, Gavin Ngo and Samuel Vortherms, sisters, Teresa Johanning, Kokomo, IN; Margaret Paulzine, Wilmont, MN; Mary Ann McCormic, Iona, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, August, and Raymond, sisters, Josephine Winter, Catherine Kobberman, Lucille Winter, Betty Rasche, Augusta Biren, Mildred Schettler & Katie Vaske. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington with parish prayers at 7:30 pm. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 11 am Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. Larry Brixius. Burial with full military honors provided by the Wilmont VFW & American Legion will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont.
