ELAINE MARIAN BOOMGAARDEN, age 84, of Luverne, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Sanford Hospice Luverne. She was born December 9, 1925, in Denver Township, rural Rock County, to Leonard and Minnie (Rath) Arp. Elaine attended country school near Hardwick and graduated from Luverne High School in 1943. She worked at Treats Drug Store, in Luverne, and also as a bookkeeper for the Rock County Building & Loan. Elaine married Alvin Boomgaarden on April 25, 1945, in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple moved to California where Alvin was stationed in the United States Navy. In 1946, they moved to Luverne. The family moved to the farm north of Magnolia, in Vienna Township, in 1948. They moved back to Luverne in 1986. She belonged to the Magnolia United Methodist Church, where until recently she had served as secretary of the UMW; and President of the Naomi Circle. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, reading, her sewing club, playing pinochle, and traveling with her husband to play cards at the casino. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Boomgaarden, Luverne; four sons, Randy (Joan) Boomgaarden, Zumbrota; Wes (LeAnn) Boomgaarden, Columbus, OH; Jack Boomgaarden, Magnolia; (Debbie Boomgaarden, Luverne) and Jeff (Mary Beth) Boomgaarden, Prior Lake; twelve grandchildren, Jennifer Boomgaarden, Scott (Amy) Boomgaarden, Anna Boomgaarden, Christian Boomgaarden, Jessica (Brian) Knips, Melissa (Billy) Cowell, Tera (fianc?e Chris Morgan) Boomgaarden, Micah Boomgaarden, Joshua Boomgaarden, Mariah Boomgaarden, Sammie Gardner, and Jack Olson; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Clausen, Luverne. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Dale Lynn Boomgaarden; brother, Loren Arp; and two sisters, Norma Rolfs & Helen Erickson.
