ELEANOR O. SARGENT, age 78, of Luverne, died Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Alcester Care & Rehab Center, in Alcester, SD. She born in Hills Minnesota to Henry and Eva Hellerud on June 3, 1937. Mother Eva was a cook and Eleanor helped in the restaurant by being a waitress when she not in school.
The Hellerud family moved to Luverne in 1944. Eleanor graduated from High School shortly after moving to Luverne. While working as a telephone operator by day and by night at the Verne Drive Inn theatre, she met Louis Sargent, whom she married on December 1 1955. A couple of years later they had a son, Tom. Several years later Eleanor become a travel agent and after a few more years became the owner of the Round Wind travel agency.
While in the travel business, she and Louis traveled all over the world. She sold the agency upon turning 65 and enjoyed retirement by traveling, reading and becoming more active in the Methodist church. After husband Louis died in 2005, life became much more difficult but she managed to stay positive.
She loved dogs and had a wonderful dog companion for seven years after Louis died named Danny who now lives with her son. She enjoyed talking about current events in the news, politics, fashion, travel and the weather.
Eleanor had a small family with her son, Tom and his wife Karla living in Sioux Falls. She also had a brother (Robert) and his wife (Jeanne) living in Hills, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Eva Hellerud; her husband Louis, on December 21, 2005; brother Gale and sister Betty (Hellerud) Copler.
