Obituary

ELEANORE E. JANS, age 90, of Worthington, died, Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at South Shore Care Center in Worthington. She was born March 5, 1920 in Worthington to her parents Elmer and Helen (Peterson) Anderson. She attended rural school and later attended Worthington Public Schools. After her schooling she owned and operated the Dew Drop Inn in Worthington. Eleanore was united in marriage to Robert Jans on September 28, 1941 at the Mission Covenant Church in Worthington. They were engaged in farming south of Brewster and in 1970 they moved to Worthington. The couple resided at the Atrium and were resident care takers. They later purchased a home in Worthington and retired from the Atrium in 1982. She was a member of the First Covenant Church in Worthington and was active in the ladies aid. She also sang in the choir, was a youth counselor and taught Sunday school. Eleanore held different positions at the First Covenant Church. She was also involved with Sunny Days Nursery School located at the First Covenant Church. She was a member of the Red Cross Gray Ladies, the Lorain Township Homemakers Club. Eleanore was a avid gardener and enjoyed crocheting and making afghans. Eleanore is survived by her husband, Robert Jans, Worthington; her children, Karen Roth, Eagan; and Bobette (Garvin) Pronk, Rochester; nine grandchildren, Kirt Schmitz, Jandalyn Schmitz, Brandon Roth, Damon (Alyson) Roth, Gwen (Ken) Stevens, Bryce (Sara) Pronk, Robert (Nichole) Datzman, Jaime Datzman and Tyler Datzman; five great grandchildren, Kendra Stevens, Kayla Stevens, Karisa Stevens, Bennett Pronk and Alexis Pronk; sister, Dorathy Jordahl, Denver, CO; and a son-in-law, Joe Datzman. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Bondalyn Schmitz and JoAnn Datzman; sister, Ailene Crippen, brother, Roland Anderson, two son-in-laws, Merle Schmitz and Don Roth.
