ELIZABETH ?BETTY? JEAN IVELAND, age 82, of Luverne, was born September 30, 1926, in Rock County, Kanaranzi Township, Luverne, to Ralph and Vivienne (Hocking) Meyer. She attended elementary school in Kanaranzi and graduated from Magnolia High School. She later attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, SD. She then worked at the Department of Defense in Bremerton, Washington for a short time. Betty married Howard Iveland on October 28, 1947, and was a lifelong resident of Luverne. After Howard?s death she was married to Norm Oldre. Betty was the banquet manager & cook at the Luverne VFW for over thirty years. She catered over a million meals in the basement of the VFW. It was her joy to cook for people and to give wedding ceremonies that extra personal touch. She was the original driver for the Senior Citizen bus, which is now known as Heartland Express. Betty also drove school bus for many years. She was devoted to the veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary. She was an active community volunteer. Betty enjoyed pinochle club, Kanaranzi Ladies Aid, and was an avid quilter. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Betty is survived by her 8 children and their families, Howard Jr., Luverne (Nathan); Linda and David Johnson, Santa Cruz, CA (JR and Jamil); Sharon, Redway, CA; David and Denise, St Peter (Jessie and Jacob), Ruth and Larry Brown, Alamosa, CO (Megan and Melissa); Mary Jo and Steve Graphenteen, Luverne (Taylor and Anthony); Paula Iveland and Raden Pramugi, Sante Fe, NM; and Mark, Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Finn and Sadie, two brothers, Dick Meyer, Luverne; and Eugene Meyer, Willmar; four sisters, Pauline Hogue, Luverne; Dorothy Sherburne, Topeka, KS; Maxine Prahm, Slayton; and Marilyn Munns, Sun City, AZ. Her parents; husband, Howard; and three brothers, Robert, Dallas & Joy Meyer, preceded her in death.
