ELIZABETH ?BETH? TRUNK, age 96, of Worthington, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Sunset Cottage in Worthington. She was born on the Lone Oak farm in Nobles County on March 20, 1914 to parents Fred and Mary Elizabeth (Finegan) Trunk. Beth graduated from Worthington Public School in 1932 and attended the last year of Normal Training in 1933. After her training she taught in three rural schools, District 69, 107 and 8 and served as treasurer for the state rural teachers. In 1942, Beth received her two year certificate, and ten years later she completed her master?s degree with two concentrations, reading consultant and elementary administration. After teaching several years in rural schools, Beth joined the Brewster school as a teaching principal in 1953. She continued in various roles until retiring in 1984. Beth dedicated her life to teaching for 51 years and for three generations of students the word teacher was given special meaning by Elizabeth Trunk. After retiring Beth kept busy reading, writing letters and traveling to places such as Alaska, the Panama Canal and to Washington state once a year. She also was very active in St. Mary?s Catholic Church and St. Mary?s Catholic School. Beth was very fond of the children at St. Mary?s School. She attended the children?s mass every Friday and often gifted money to go toward paying the children?s tuition. Beth was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church, the Minnesota Education Association and the National Education Association. She was nominated as ?Woman of the Year? by the Business Professional Women. She was also a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma PSI chapter. She enjoyed spending time with family and chatting with friends. Beth was a mentor to all. Beth is survived by one niece, Joan Trunk, Seattle, WA; one nephew, Ron Trunk, Carson City, NV; and many grand and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Joe, Roy, and Francis and one sister, Mary Ellen ?Ella?.
