ELLAMAE A. JOSENDAHL, age 88, of Luverne, died Thursday, August 25, 2011, at her home. She was born October 31, 1922, in Minneapolis, to Arthur and Ella (Olson) Appel. She graduated from Butterfield High School in 1940. Ellamae then moved to Long Beach, CA where she worked as a secretary in downtown Los Angeles during WWII. She later moved to Minneapolis. Ellamae graduated from Mankato Teachers College. In 1959, she became a first grade teacher in Luverne. She was known as Ms. Appel and taught for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1986.
Ellamae married Abner G. Josendahl on July 20, 1974, at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple resided in Luverne.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church; the GLCW; the MEA; and the NEA. Ellamae enjoyed spending time on Lake Shetek, shopping, reading, and traveling. She was looking forward to her trip to Norway.
Ellamae is survived by her eight nieces & nephews, Linda, Joyce, Carol, Marilyn, Debbie, Scott, Jo Anne & Rich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Abner, in February of 2005; two brothers, Arthur Jr. & Donald Appel; sister, Norma Seavert; and a nephew, Brad Appel.
Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 2 pm Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Ron Nichols. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
