ERVIN JOSEPH BRUNS, age 87, of Lismore, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Sanford Worthington Hospice Cottage. He was born January 27, 1929, at the family farm near St. Kilian, in Nobles County, to John and Elizabeth (Burkard) Bruns. He received his education at St. Kilian Catholic School. Ervin joined his father in an active grain livestock operation. When his dad retired, Ervin continued to farm and enjoyed working with the sheep. He also enjoyed trapping and preparing his catch for sale of hides. You could find him relaxing, petting his dog or one of the many farm cats. Ervin became a resident of the Adrian Nursing Home in 2011; and he became a resident of the Colonial Nursing Home, in Lakefield, in 2015.
He was a lifetime member of St. Kilian Catholic Church. Ervin enjoyed gardening his flowers and working on the farm. He donated over fifteen gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
Left to cherish Ervin's memory are his brother, Elmer Bruns, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Mathilda Pearson, Worthington; and Shirley (John) Schmidt, Emmetsburg, IA; sister-in-law, Victoria Bruns, Hickson, ND; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Marcella Welder, Lucille, Gladys & Ella Mae Bruns; three brothers, Jerome, Raphael "Ray" and Val Bruns; three brothers-in-law, George Welder, James Pearson & Jerry Zitterich; and a sister-in-law, Janice Bruns.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 am Saturday at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. Funeral Mass will be 11 am Saturday at St. Kilian Catholic Church officiated by Fr. Andrew Beerman. Burial will be in the St. Kilian Cemetery.
