ETHEL AUGUSTA WITTERN, age 86, of Stewartville, MN, formerly of Worthington, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, MN. She was born on December 9, 1920 in Lyon County, IA to parents Nicholus and Marie (Krahling) Marx. Ethel attended school in George, IA. On December 30, 1942, she was united in marriage to Fred Wittern. The couple made their home in Little Rock, IA and moved to Worthington in 1948. Ethel taught country school for six years. After the births of their children, Ethel worked for Campbell Soup Company for twenty-nine years, working her way up from quality control, to the lab and then a secretarial position. Ethel was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Worthington and was active at the Methodist church in Stewartville. Ethel and her husband enjoyed many fun retirement years. Summers found them going to their granddaughter?s horse shows in Minnesota and winters were spent in California visiting their daughter and grandchildren. Ethel enjoyed her family and they loved her just as much. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and after being widowed she enjoyed bus trips. Ethel was known for her wonderful apple pies that were always requested by her family. Ethel became a resident of the Stewartville Care Center in August of 2006. Ethel is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Arden Harberts, Stewartville, MN; Vickie and Richard Leitz of Hemet, CA; six grandchildren, Randy and Carla Scheepstra, Rochester, MN; Craig and Denise Bushman, Hayfield, MN; Brian and Tracey Howard, Stewartville, MN; Robert and Jessica Lightfeld, Daniel and Nicole Leitz, and Julie Leitz- Ekema, all of California; six great-grandchildren, Greg and Erin Scheepstra, Kristen and Ryan Stender, and Taylor and Joshua Howard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Wittern, two sisters, Eleanor Wilson and Mildred Lukehart, and one brother, Donald Marx.
