EUGENE MICHAEL VORTHERMS, age 59, of Adrian, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. He was born December 3, 1956, in Slayton, to Orville and Doreen (Egan) Vortherms. Eugene was baptized at St. Adrian Catholic Church and attended St. Adrian Elementary School. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1976 and from Worthington Community College with an Associate's Degree in Alcohol Rahab & Psychology.
Eugene worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, some of his favorites, being a chef at Nickerson Farms and the A&T Tap. He also did carpentry work and road construction.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family. Eugene organized the big Vortherms "4th of July" family reunions and he loved to take his nieces & nephews fishing.
Eugene is survived by his thirteen siblings, Kevin Vortherms, Lismore, MN; Steven Vortherms, Adrian; Pamela (Dan) Dobson, Luverne, MN; Patrice (Randy) Vander Veen, Hutchinson, MN; Cynthia Vortherms, Adrian, MN; Mary (Blas) Gonzales, Hutchinson, MN; James (Kristie) Vortherms, Hartford, SD; Jane (David) Mork, Osakis, MN; sister-in-law Deanne Vortherms, Sioux Falls, SD; Bruce (Michele) Vortherms, Adrian, MN; Timothy (Sara) Vortherms, Adrian, MN; Kelly (Connie) Vortherms, Worthington, MN; Amy Rosales, Adrian, MN, and Angela Vortherms, Osakis, MN. Eugene was a proud uncle to thirty nieces & nephews; their thirteen spouses; and twenty six great nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David in 1972; and Jeff in 2004; brother-in-law, Norman Jellema; a niece, Stacy Jellema in 1980; and a great niece, Kendall Vortherms in 2009.
Eugene's spirit is now free and enjoying his reunion in heaven with his loved ones there!
A time of fellowship will be Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Memorial service will be 1 pm Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, officiated by Fr. Thomas Jennings. Private burial of cremains will be at a later date.
