November 28, 1919 – February 14, 2019
Evelyn Marie Koob was born on November 28, 1919, to William and Mary (Finke) Bathon. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Wilmont. After several years of working on the family farm,Evelyn moved to Worthington to become a "mother's helper." She remained in Worthington and met her future husband Quirinus Koob at a family wedding. Their love for one another grew until they were united in marriage on July 31, 1944, at St. Mary's CatholicChurch. Evelyn and Quirinus were happily married for 67 years.
Following Quirinus' discharge from the Army in November 1945, Evelyn and Quirinus moved to Iona, MN and raised their family. Later, they moved to Worthington where they built and operated Koob Implement Co., retiringin 1973. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling and living in their home by the lake. They cherished their time spent with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington, the Alter Society, the Funeral Guild, and was a 4-H Leader for her daughters' club. Her hobbies included playing cards, cooking, baking, and tendingto her flower garden.
Evelyn is survived by her children, James Koob of Bigelow, MN and daughter Ashley Koob; Elaine (Bernard) Schlichte of Avoca, MN and children Chris Schlichte and Lisa (Steve Hamilton) Schlichte; Carol (James) Dick ofFairmont, MN and children Jennifer (Nick Swenson) Dick, Katherine (Benjamin) Krueger and Joshua Dick; Susan (Richard) Strom of Owatonna, MN and children Michael (Beth) Strom, Sarah (Michael) Garibay, and David (Lori) Strom; Marilyn (Robert) Wallace of Kellogg,MN and children Leslie (Aaron) Young, Andrew (Meghan) Wallace and Maggie (Jason) Ricco; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Quirinus on November 9, 2011, an infant daughter Maryann and infant son Kenneth, sisters Edna (Al) Scheuring and Lucille (Vernon) Hansen, and Quirinie's 9 nine brothers and sisters and their spouses.
Evelyn, 99, was a resident of Maple Lawn Nursing Home for several years and died on February 14 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 1 pm at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. James Callahan and Deacon Vern Behrends. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Worthington.
