Evelyn R. Nelson, age 88, of Luverne, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Center, in Luverne. Evelyn lived in Rock County her entire life and has been a resident of Mary Jane Brown since November 2004. She was born to Earnest and Myrtle (Lehmann) Kleine in Magnolia Township on January 17, 1920. On October 22, 1938 she married Fred L. Nelson at Rock Rapids, Iowa. They farmed in Rock County for 30 years before retiring to Magnolia in 1976. After raising her children and working as a partner with Fred on the farm, she worked for the J.C. Penney Company as a stock room clerk and then a sales auditor from 1968 until 1984. Evelyn moved to the Camelot Condominiums in Luverne in 1989. When she was still able, she was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and was a part of the Ladies Aid and Martha Circle. Evelyn was a multi-talented and generous person. She was a great cook and baker and supplied several families in Luverne with their weekly baked goods and decorated cakes. Over the years she made many ?care bears? and embroidered many quilt squares as a volunteer. Her family and friends were the recipients of many delicious homemade goodies as well as beautifully handmade clothing and mementos all made with a great deal of care and love.
